Atonement

Based on the prize winning novel by Ian McEwan, Atonement brings together all of the elements that make movies worth watching. Gorgeous locations throughout England, pitch perfect costumes by Jacqueline Durran, and incredible cinematography by Semus McGarvey (who was the DP on another beautiful film – Enigma). With spellbinding performances by Keira Knightley and James McAvoy, this film will have you at “c, u, next Tuesday”.

Shropshire

Stokesay Court – This private Victorian estate plays such an integral part of the film that it really becomes like another character. Fans of the film have been clamoring to tour the house and begging for the owner Caroline Magnus to show them the billiard room where the infamous “library scene” was filmed and the makeshift fountain where Knightley takes a dip. For more on the estate, read the wonderful NY times story here. {website}

London

Bethnal Green Town Hall – Used as the backdrop for the tearoom scene where Cecilia and Robbie see each for the first time after the incident at the Tallis home.
