The Duchess

The Duchess is a bittersweet bio-pic based on the biography “Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire” by Amanda Foreman.  I was completely sucked in by the story which was almost as enticing as the incredible costumes and grand settings.  Perhaps an attempt to rival Coppola’s Marie Antoinette in fashion and glamour, the film is amazing eye candy.

Derbyshire

Kedleston Hall – This grand Georgian house is all glamour as the Spencer family home and also doing double duty as a rented villa in Bath. Filming took place over 5 weeks at the Hall. The Marble Hall is where Georgiana’s wig catches on fire and has to be “put out” and the Saloon stands in as the entrance to her rented Bath villa. {website}

Oseterly House – The scene of Lady Melbourne's ball in London. {website}

Oxfordshire

Basildon Park – The dining room at this great estate was featured as the rented villa’s dining room in Bath. Also seen in 2005's Pride & Prejudice.

Clandon Park – The unbelievable Marble Hall at this National Trust property was the setting for another dining room scene in London. {website}
