I’m surprised that more people don’t mention this charming film featuring the extraordinary Janeane Garofalo. Filmed almost entirely on the west coast of Ireland, the subject matter and windswept locales have prompted many a single woman to contact her travel agent about finding an Irish matchmaking festival. Garofalo once described this movie as “a romantic comedy for people who hate romantic comedies” but I beg to differ. There’s a lot for us romcom fans to enjoy in this quirky film.
This small fishing village in Connemara served as the setting for many of the scenes in the movie. The runaway bus comes to mind. The area is also known for its art festivals and dramatic coastal drives.
Inis Mor (or the “big island”) and its world heritage site of the Dun Aonghasa Fort were the backdrops for scenes where Marcy tries to find one of the members of the McGlory family.
